PENSACOLA, FL – A 54-year-old Florida woman was arrested earlier in August after authorities say she, as her father’s caregiver, neglected a litany of serious and grossly infected injuries forming on her elderly father likely stemming from him not being bathed and planted in a recliner for months.
On July 31st, Pamela Reynolds reportedly made a 911 call regarding her father due to his “high heart rate,” leading to a subsequent hospitalization where medical staff on-hand discovered numerous concerning injuries and infections that led to police being called to investigate the matter.
Upon the arrival of authorities, medical staff who were treating Reynolds’ father informed police that the elderly man was suffering from necrosis and was “severely malnourished,” highlighting how the elderly man arrived at the hospital covered in fecal matter and harboring pus-filled infections.
One particular necrotic hip infection pointed out to authorities reportedly contained both feces and maggots.
According to the police report regarding the matter, one of the responding officers claimed he “could smell decaying flesh” emanating from the elderly man at the hospital, while personally observing an injury being treated that was “the size of a softball with black and yellow tissue, pus, and fluids coming out.”
When police questioned Reynolds about the level of care her father was receiving at the home, she allegedly told investigators that she regularly bathed her father with “soap and water,” and administered food and medicine at an acceptable cadence.
Reynolds reportedly told police she hadn’t taken her father to the hospital since January, despite claiming she wanted to bring him in as far back as April but cited “transportation issues” as being why she couldn’t.
Investigators learned that Reynolds’ father had been left to seemingly fester in a recliner chair since early June, as he was unable to move himself. Furthermore, the condition in which the elderly victim arrived at the hospital seemed to greatly contradict the narrative Reynolds provided to investigators regarding the alleged level of care he was receiving at home.
On August 4th, Reynolds was arrested on a single count of neglect of an elderly or disabled adult with great bodily harm and was subsequently transferred over to the Escambia County Jail.
Bond was set at $10,000 for Reynolds following her arrest, with her next scheduled court appearance being set for August 22nd.
