Georgia Woman’s Elderly Mother Found Fused to Feces-Covered Mattress Before Dying: Cops

AUGUSTA, GA – A 54-year-old woman was charged with felony murder earlier in July after authorities say the suspect neglected her bedridden 82-year-old mother, with the state of squalor within the residence in tandem with the alleged neglect resulting in a series of deadly infections that claimed the elderly woman’s life.

On July 29th, Tyrossale Peak was arraigned at the Richmond County courthouse in Augusta following an indictment on charges of felony murder and neglect to a disabled adult, stemming from the death of Peak’s mother, Lillie Sapp.

According to authorities, Sapp was found to be literally stuck to her mattress inside Peak’s home in December 2024 during a welfare check, with police taking note of the dilapidated nature of the home and the bug-infested mattress Sapp was adhered to that was also covered in feces and various body fluids.

Deputies on the scene of the Rollingwood Drive residence were responding to a received tip at the time of the discovery, one that was apparently warranted based upon the deputies’ findings.

First responders encountered difficulties when attempting to remove Sapp from the bed in order to have her transported for medical treatment, as the adhesive nature of the soiled bedding required that portions of the mattress be cut out from underneath Sapp.

Authorities say the squalor wasn’t solely isolated to Sapp’s quarters inside the home, as deputies observed general filth in the kitchen accompanied by a roach infestation.

The elderly woman was eventually transported to Wellstar MCG Health where she remained in treatment for various infections in the lungs and bones before her passing three weeks after being admitted.

During the course of the investigation, authorities learned Sapp was previously in hospice care before being pulled out by Peak, with it being unclear as to why Sapp was initially undergoing hospice care in the first place.

Despite Sapp’s death occurring this past January, Peak wasn’t indicted until July 10th, likely due to investigators and prosecutors building their respective case against the victim’s daughter.

In Peak’s arrest report, the alleged abuser claimed to have been administering the needed care and nutrition to her mother throughout her time in the home, telling investigators at the time that her mother had “lost a bit of weight but she was fine.”

However, prosecutors viewed the level of care Sapp was receiving as essentially nonexistent, alleging Peak “willfully deprived” her mother of the care she needed “to the extent that the health and well-being of Lillie Mae Sapp was jeopardized.”

Peak could face life in prison if convicted of the felony murder charge.

The hospice should have been able to pick up this daughter’s lack of concern, called APS and had that woman removed. So called Daughter likely collecting the SS check. Ive seen it in homecare many times and reported it as well. Sickening.
