LOS ANGELES, CA – A raid executed on an underground nightclub in Los Angeles County’s city of El Monte resulted in the arrests of nine illegal aliens as well as the seizure of narcotics and “reencoded gift cards” believed to be part of a broader financial scheme.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued a press release earlier this week detailing a recent operation conducted this past July led by the agency’s Homeland Security Investigations’ (HSI) El Camino Real Financial Crimes Task Force, where the unit reportedly executed a warrant on an underground nightclub believed to be a hub for numerous criminal activities.
On July 19th, a search warrant was executed at the unnamed nightclub where officials suspected the establishment served as a hotbed for possible Chinese organized crime.
This included the likes of drug trafficking, money laundering and even gift card fraud, according to local reports following the raid. In a statement released by ICE, the agency confirmed the arrests of nine illegal immigrants, seven of which were from China, with the other two being from Mexico and Malaysia respectively.
A total of 66 individuals were questioned during the execution of the search warrant, with the nine illegal aliens currently in ICE custody pending immigration proceedings.
Going back to this past March, ICE HSI’s El Camino Real Financial Crimes Task Force has been focused on “Asian organized crime in the Los Angeles area, suspecting these groups of extorting underground nightclubs in warehouses,” according to the agency’s press release, dealing in a variety of volatile narcotics from ketamine to ecstasy.
ICE HSI’s El Camino Real Task Force’s Assistant Special Agent in Charge Al Rossi shared a statement following the successful operation, emphasizing the agency’s promise to dismantle the likes of organized crime perpetuated by illegal aliens.
“The HSI El Camino Real Task Force is unwavering in its commitment to dismantling illegal operations, as exemplified by our recent execution of a search warrant on an underground nightclub operated by Asian organized crime,” SAC Rossi noted.
“HSI will persist in its rigorous investigations of illegal activities and steadfastly enforce immigration laws whenever violations are uncovered,” Rossi added.
