Sanctuary Debate Rekindled After ICE Pursuit Ends in Crash

BALTIMORE, MD – Earlier in April, two Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers were hospitalized following a pursuit of an illegal alien with a final order of removal which reportedly culminated in a “multi-car pileup” collision allegedly caused by the fleeing illegal alien, according to Homeland Security.

On April 2nd, ICE officers were reportedly engaged in a targeted operation in Baltimore pertaining to the apprehension of Ever Omar Alvarenga-Rios, an illegal alien from Honduras, who’d been rendered a final order of removal back in 2018. According to Homeland Security, ICE officers attempted to conduct a vehicle stop while Alvarenga-Rios was behind the wheel, but he allegedly “drove recklessly” while fleeing the stop.

According to the Homeland Security press release, Alvarenga-Rios “slammed on his brakes, causing a multi-car pileup” during the pursuit, with ICE officers eventually transitioning to a foot pursuit and using “the minimum amount of force necessary to make the arrest.”

Two ICE officers, as well as Alvarenga-Rios, were transported to an area hospital following the incident for treatment, with the officers reportedly being treated for possible concussions sustained during the incident. Alvarenga-Rios is reportedly being held in custody at the area hospital pending his release from treatment.

Homeland Security Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis issued a statement in the wake of Alvarenga-Rios’s apprehension, lending blame to “sanctuary politicians” for their rhetoric agency officials believe contributed to the culmination of events.

“This dangerous attempt to resist arrest comes after sanctuary politicians have encouraged illegal aliens to evade arrest by hosting webinars instructing illegal aliens how to avoid being caught,” Acting Assistant Secretary Bis stated, adding, “Sanctuary politicians must stop encouraging this reckless behavior that endangers illegal aliens, our officers, and the public.”

The Homeland Security press release went on to highlight various instances where political figures at the national level promulgated tactics to avoid ICE apprehension to those illegally residing in the United States, with figures such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Dan Goldman, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, and Governor Gavin Newsom mentioned.
