Illegal Immigrant Sentenced to Decade Imprisonment for Rape of 15-Year-Old Girl

PLYMOUTH COUNTY, MA – A 27-year-old illegal immigrant from Haiti was sentenced to 10 to 12 years in prison earlier in October after being found guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl at an emergency shelter in Rockland back in 2024.

On October 10th, Haitian national Cory Alvarez learned his fate in court following the verdict reached this past September, where he was found guilty of aggravated rape of a child with a 10-year age difference. Alvarez was initially arrested on March 13th, 2024, after Rockland Police responded to the Comfort Inn on Hingham Street following a report of a 15-year-old girl having been sexually assaulted at the hotel, which was being utilized as an emergency shelter.

According to authorities, Alvarez and the victim were both staying at the hotel via the emergency shelter program taking place at the time, with the victim telling investigators Alvarez lured her into his room under the guise of offering assistance to put some apps on her tablet. However, when the victim entered Alvarez’s room, he reportedly forced the victim onto the bed and assaulted her.

In June 2024, Alvarez was released on $500 bail despite the alarming nature of his charges, prompting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to take him into custody shortly after his release from jail. Prosecutors were able to successfully argue for Alvarez’s bail to be increased to $150,000 so that his criminal trial could play out before immigration proceedings, ensuring Alvarez would have to answer for his crimes instead of simply being returned to Haiti after sexually assaulting a child.

Following Alvarez’s October 10th sentencing, Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz stated the pursuit of justice in this case.

“Our commitment to seeing this case through was, most importantly, about seeking justice on behalf of the child victim,” Cruz stated, adding, “It was also about ensuring that both the victim and the defendant had their day in court. My thoughts remain with the child victim in this case, her father, and her family. With sentencing today, I hope that this family can find some closure.”
