CHICAGO, IL- Sanctuary politicians continue to put illegal aliens ahead of American citizens, and the practice is putting murderers, rapists, and child molesters back on American streets.
The Department of Homeland Security last week eviscerated Illinois’ calorically-challenged governor, J.B. Pritzker, over the state’s refusal to cooperate with federal immigration authorities after an illegal alien convicted of child sexual abuse was released onto the streets of Chicago to offend again due to the state’s lax bail policies and sanctuary status, Fox News Digital reported.
Pritzker, who fancies himself a 2028 Democratic presidential contender, and Marxist Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson have repeatedly criticized the Trump administration’s efforts to undo four years of open border mayhem facilitated by the Biden administration, even comparing the efforts to the Confederacy.
Johnson, an unhinged lunatic who makes former mayor Lori Lightfoot look sane by comparison, has claimed the administration is “declar[ing] war on Chicago” and claims President Trump is using the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a “private, mlitarized, occupying force,” using inflammatory language to claim Chicagoans should “fight them in the streets, the legislature, and the judiciary.”
Illinois operates under the “TRUST Act,” which was pushed by Illinois Democrats and signed into law by former RINO Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner, and which prohibits the use of state and local resources for most civil immigration enforcement purposes, Fox News Digital reported.
The DHS is having none of Pritzker.
‘Governor Pritzker continues to refuse to do his job to protect his citizens from illegal alien crime and instead chooses to smear our law enforcement,” Assistant DHS Secretary Laurin Bis told Fox News Digital.
“Where is the investigation into his own policies that allowed this pedophile to be released from jail and be loose in Illinois communities?” she added, continuing her criticism of Pritzker. She called on him to “end this insanity and stop releasing pedophiles into our communities.”
In an exclusive statement to Fox News Digital, the DHS said that ICE officers went to Chicago to arrest a Guatemalan national in the country illegally. Erik Giovanni-Quiroa was released from jail despite ICE having a detainer on him after a conviction for aggravated sexual abuse of a five-year-old child.
In addition to the sexual assault charges, Giovanni-Quiroa had previously been convicted in 2011 of a firearm-battery charge. He was given a three-year sentence on the pedophilia charge, however, ICE found him on the streets after he was released. Last week, ICE stopped him in a targeted vehicle stop and arrested him out on the streets instead of a secure location such as a jail.
Giovanni-Quiroa initially refused to stop and briefly escaped before being taken into custody. Bis said so-called “sanctuary” politicians, overwhelmingly Democrats, in Illinois and elsewhere protect illegal aliens while letting them on the streets to reoffend and commit additional crimes against American citizens.
ICE had previously called on law enforcement authorities in Illinois to honor ICE detainers, with former director Todd Lyons writing Attorney General Kwame Raoul advising that DHS identified over 4,000 illegal aliens in state custody.
Giovanni-Quiroa entered the country illegally during George W. Bush’s administration and has been protected by the TRUST Act.
During the administration’s “Operation: Midway Blitz” last June, Raoul sent a “refresher” to Illinois law enforcement agencies, reminding them of key provisions of the law.
“It is important to note, however, that although the Illinois TRUST Act prevents the use of state and local resources for civil immigration enforcement purposes, it does not prevent law enforcement officers from taking action to maintain peace and ensure public safety within their jurisdiction,” he wrote.
“Although some provisions of federal immigration statutes are criminal, deportation and removability are matters of civil law, not criminal law [and] whether an individual is lawfully present in the United States is a question of federal immigration law.”
Neither Raoul, Pritzker, nor Johnson returned Fox News Digital’s request for comment on the current case.
In signing the TRUST Act in 2017, Rauner claimed it would “continue Illinois’ history of welcoming immigrants and help law enforcement focus on stopping violent crime and protecting Illinois residents.”
His statement cited a federal court decision from a far-left, Obama-appointed judge based in Chicago, who was later promoted to the appeals court by Joe Biden, who found “flaws” in ICE’s detainer process.
Judge John Zee found in his 2019 order in the case of Jimenez-Moreno v. Napolitano that immigration detainer orders allegedly exceeded DHS’s statutory authority, while also acknowledging a Philadelphia federal court ruling that ICE detainer requests are not a violation of the Tenth Amendment as alleged.
