Indiana Man Drank Beer While Threatening to “Slaughter” Children in His Care: Police

NEW PALESTINE, IN – A 35-year-old man out of New Palestine is facing serious charges alleging child abuse after authorities say the individual routinely threatened the children as well as beat them and enforced cruel, physical punishments.

Curtis Bordenkircher was arrested on November 3rd on four charges of neglect of a dependent and two charges of intimidation following an investigation that began this past October.

Authorities have yet to explain Bordenkircher’s relationship to the victims in the case, but investigators were tipped off after authorities learned of a child allegedly in Bordenkircher’s care who texted their mother for help.

Hancock County Sheriff's deputies paid a visit to the home of the young victims on October 15th where they learned of the alleged abuse suffered by the victims, with the children alleging Bordenkircher would make one girl stand in the corner for hours until her legs went numb while he allegedly called her “dumb” and a “disappointment.”

Another child claimed Bordenkircher had pinned her against the wall by her neck and threatened her.

According to authorities, Bordenkircher had at one point brandished a knife at the children, allegedly telling them he’d “slaughter them in their sleep” if they didn’t keep quiet.

A young boy inside the home told investigators that he believed Bordenkircher would carry out the alleged threat, while another young boy detailed how the suspect routinely got drunk and had “whipped” him.

The suspect was at the home while deputies spoke with the children on October 15th, which deputies did observe that the suspect was drinking a tall beer at the time of their arrival.

Bordenkircher allegedly told deputies that he wasn’t abusive to the children, instead blaming their mother and saying she “manipulates” the kids. Bordenkircher did, however, admit to having spanked the children in the past.

Each charge Bordenkircher is facing carries a two-and-a-half year sentence if convicted. The suspect has since been released from jail after posting a $600 bond and has his next court appearance scheduled for December 4th.
