MEMPHIS, TN – A brutal shooting reportedly stemming from allegedly stolen property at a Memphis Burger King location earlier in July has landed two suspects in jail, with one facing an attempted murder charge and the other facing assault and accessory charges.
According to authorities, a father and his adult son were reportedly eating at a Burger King located off the 1300 block of Poplar Avenue in Memphis on the earlier this week when two males, identified as 25-year-old Dale Townes and 30-year-old Trevor Young, confronted the son over an allegedly stolen Apple watch, according to an article published by PEOPLE earlier this morning.
Townes and Young reportedly worked as local landscapers and were familiar with the individual they confronted, as he had previously worked for Young’s lawn service “for years,” according to a complaint affidavit regarding the case. The confrontation reportedly became physical, with authorities saying surveillance video depicts the two suspects chasing the son in and out of the restaurant while assaulting the victim.
The father of the man allegedly attacked by the suspects reportedly came outside to the restaurant parking lot and “attempted to defuse the situation but was unsuccessful and the suspects began to aggressively assault the son,” according to a witness statement featured in the complaint affidavit. After the father attempted to physically intervene and strike one of the suspects, police say Townes produced a firearm and shot the father.
When Memphis Police arrived at the scene, they found the father “lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the left side of his abdomen,” alongside his son who had reportedly suffered “injuries to his shoulder due to being beat continuously with an unknown object.” While initially listed in critical condition, the father’s medical status has since been updated to non-critical after being rushed to an area hospital. The son’s medical condition was listed as non-critical at the time of his hospital admittance.
Investigators were able to get a statement from the son while at the scene, who reportedly identified the two suspects and said Young was the primary person who physically beat him. Roughly fifteen minutes after the incident, police located the suspects’ vehicle and placed the two in custody.
Townes has since been charged with second-degree attempted murder and employing a firearm with intent to commit a felony. Young is currently facing charges of aggravated assault and accessory after the fact. A bail hearing was held recently, with Townes’ bond set at $500,000 and Young’s set at $200,000.
