Minneapolis Police Chief Resigns in Disgrace After Tampering With Sex Scandal Investigation

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - The Minneapolis Chief of Police reportedly resigned from his position earlier in May after officials claim he interfered in an investigation into alleged conduct pertaining to inappropriate sexual relations with city employees.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, who notoriously added fuel to the proverbial fire regarding the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal agents, is out of a job after resigning from office following allegations of interfering with an investigation into his alleged sexual exploits with city employees.

According to Mayor Jacob Frey who announced O’Hara’s resignation on May 26th, the police chief was placed under investigation last year after allegations surfaced of purported inappropriate relations, with Frey claiming said investigation wrapped up months earlier and the allegations were unfounded.

“An outside investigation was conducted, extensive interviews were completed, and numerous staff participated. Several months ago, that investigation concluded and we received a report stating that the allegations were not substantiated. Those allegations remain not substantiated,” Mayor Frey stated.

However, while O’Hara was cleared of any wrongdoing relating to the allegations of inappropriate relations, his conduct while the investigation took place cauesed him to resign from his position earlier in May. Mayor Frey revealed during the press conference that O’Hara had allegedly deleted a particular phone contact from his city-issued device that was integral to the inappropriate relations allegations.

“Specifically, investigators found that [O’Hara] intentionally deleted a contact card for an individual from his city-issued cell phone during the original investigation in an attempt to shield that evidence of his connection to the person from investigators,” Mayor Frey stated.

To make matters worse, O’Hara reportedly engaged in further conduct that potentially damaged the integrity of the investigation into him after he was instructed to not speak on the matter while it was ongoing, as Mayor Frey revealed O’Hara “told another city employee that his city cell phone had been taken from him for the investigation.”

Considering the gravity of attempting to meddle with the investigation into his alleged conduct, Mayor Frey stated during the press conference that he informed O’Hara that disciplinary action would be taken “up to and including discharge.” In response to the then-impending disciplinary action, Mayor Frey said O’Hara resigned from his role.

O’Hara’s resignation comes just over two weeks after Mayor Frey nominated him for a second four-year term as the Minneapolis Police Chief. The now-former police chief is still embroiled in an ongoing lawsuit where he’s accused of defaming a former MPD officer who he terminated in 2023 after activists and media outlets highlighted a misdemeanor battery of a suspect case where said officer was acquitted at trial before being hired by MPD.
