BOULDER CITY, NV - On February 19, 2026, the Boulder City Police Department received a 911 call at around 10 a.m. local time reporting that a vehicle crashed through a secure gate at a Department of Water and Power substation, PEOPLE Magazine reported, citing a news release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD). The caller subsequently reported hearing gunshots from inside the vehicle, the agency reported.
On arrival at the scene, police found a dead adult male wearing soft body armor inside a Silver Nissan Sentra. It was later determined that the driver died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. They said it appeared to be a suspected act of terrorism, since the car was full of explosives.

The suspect, identified as Dawson Maloney, 23, of Albany, N.Y., had earlier told his family he was going to be “on the news,” authorities said.
Inside the vehicle, police found two additional shotguns, an AR-style pistol, loaded magazines, and ammunition, a flamethrower, and two thermite-based incendiary devices, according to the news release.

It was later determined that Maloney had recently been reported missing from New York and had told family members he would commit an act that would get him “on the news.”

Automated license plate reader (ALPR) data showed Maloney had driven from New York to Nevada in a rental car, FBI Special Agent in Charge of the Las Vegas field office, Christopher Delzotto, said.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the incident was treated as terrorism-related due to the location and materials discovered,” the Metro police said, adding, “There is no ongoing threat to the public at this time.”
According to Syracuse.com, Maloney was listed on Albany Law School’s website as a member of the class of 2027.
The Times Union reports that FBI agents and police searched two Albany residences tied to Maloney and recovered electronic devices, gun components, and a 3-D printer.
Authorities found explosive materials and multiple books “related to extremist ideologies” in Maloney’s motel room, Las Vegas Metro Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill told reporters during the Friday news conference. The books included ones about right and left-wing extremism, environmental extremism, white supremacism, and anti-government ideology, he said.
