RALEIGH, NC - A 25-year-old woman is facing a litany of charges after authorities claim she dragged a Raleigh Police officer several feet with her vehicle as the officer was attempting to direct traffic near North Carolina State University.
On May 8, police arrested 25-year-old Shelley Anne Moore on suspicion of dragging a Raleigh Police officer for approximately 10 feet that afternoon while the officer was directing traffic. According to authorities, the officer was leaning against Moore’s vehicle at the intersection of Pullen Road and Western Boulevard when she allegedly started driving off.
Traffic was reportedly being directed at the aforementioned intersection due to a then-ongoing event taking place at the university. Moore ignored the officer’s commands during the interaction and attempted to flee the scene following the incident. North Carolina University Campus Police apprehended Moore shortly after the incident.
Local reports identified the officer involved in the incident as Raleigh Police (RPD) Officer H. Robbins. The officer reportedly suffered minor abrasions to his arm as a result of the alleged vehicular assault but is expected to fully recover. According to reports, Officer Robbins was working the event while off duty.
Moore is now facing charges of felony hit and run, felony resisting a public officer resulting in injury, reckless driving to endanger, and failing to obey a traffic officer. The suspect was reportedly being held on a $5,000 secured bond, but Wake County Jail records as of May 9 do not show Moore as actively in custody.
A conviction for felony hit and run resulting in injury can carry a prison sentence of up to 25 months, according to North Carolina sentencing guidelines.
