OXFORD, MS – The FBI reportedly arrested over a dozen current and former Mississippi law enforcement officers alongside a handful of alleged co-conspirators in a drug trafficking investigation. According to federal officials, the indicted law enforcement officers allegedly accepted bribes in exchange for providing safe passage for drug runners across Mississippi.
A press conference held on October 30th composed of federal and local officials in Oxford announced the indictment of 14 current and former law enforcement officers, including two sheriffs, as well as six co-conspirators in what FBI Deputy Director Andrew Bailey described as a drug trafficking operation that “disgraced the badge.”
Humphreys County Sheriff Bruce Williams and Washington County Sheriff Milton Gaston were among the notable arrests associated with the yearlong investigation, according to the FBI. Federal authorities allege the law enforcement officers would afford a form of safe passage along the Mississippi Delta for various drug runners, with some of the narcotics making their way to destinations like Miami, Florida, and Memphis, Tennessee.
Federal law enforcement officials began the investigation into the alleged public corruption after “receiving complaints from drug dealers,” according to local reports, with U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner saying, “I guess you could characterize it as a sting,” regarding how the law enforcement officers found themselves arrested.
The other law enforcement officers allegedly involved in the conspiracy are as follows:
The alleged co-conspirators also indicted in connection to the investigation were identified as Marcus Nolan, Aasahn Roach, Jeremy Sallis, Torio Wiseman, Pierre Lakes and Derrik Wallace.
FBI Deputy Director Bailey stated during the press conference, “This corruption permeated all levels, extended across multiple counties, multiple jurisdictions. The Department of Justice and its subset, the FBI, will not allow wrongdoers to get away with it.”
Those named in the indictment are facing numerous charges ranging from bribery-related offenses, drug trafficking, and carrying a firearm while in the commission of a felony.
