WASHINGTON, DC – Earlier in September, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement held a hearing where parents impacted by crimes committed by illegal aliens confronted lawmakers regarding the kinds of sanctuary policies contributing to the sorts of crimes created by illegal immigration.
A House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement hearing was held on September 1, where witnesses who have personally dealt with the impacts of illegal immigration spoke to lawmakers regarding the reckless endorsement of sanctuary policies that left their families with debilitating life-long outcomes.
Marcus Coleman, whose 5-year-old daughter Dalilah was left disabled following a 2024 multi-car crash caused by an illegal alien driving an 18-wheeler in California, said he “rejected” the seemingly feigned sympathy coming from lawmakers who took the time to defend their stances on sanctuary policies in the face of families harmed by the same policies they champion.
“I reject your guys' sympathy, to be honest with you,” Coleman stated, emphasizing, “There's no way you guys are sorry. Not one of you guys have ever called me.”
Patricia Fox, whose daughter Carissa Aspnes was left permanently disabled following a hit-and-run in Colorado involving an unlicensed, uninsured illegal alien who reportedly ran a stop sign and hit the motorcycle Aspnes was on, was also among those who spoke to lawmakers during the hearing. Fox called out Democrats during the hearing who she believes are more vested in sticking it to President Trump rather than focusing on protecting Americans.
“Our story shouldn't be partisan. The lives of American citizens should matter to both sides. We get it. You guys hate Trump. The campaign ads, they're all the same. ‘Taking the fight to Trump, standing against Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump.’ You need to love Americans more than you hate Trump,” Fox stated during the hearing.
Democrat Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal heard these tragic stories coming from American families and opted to parrot claims that agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are “disappearing” families of all backgrounds, saying the acts are even happening to “U.S. citizens.”
“What the American people have seen instead is kidnapping, disappearing, and incarceration of all people of all statuses, including U.S. citizens,” Rep. Jayapal stated during the hearing.
Democrat Rep. Summer Lee was also among those seemingly dismissive of the impacts of illegal immigration, saying, “Our communities deserve to feel safe and we're not going to achieve that by pushing these cruel and inhumane immigration policies.”
Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, was among the most seemingly incensed at the idea of condemning sanctuary policies, saying during the hearing, “Attacking sanctuary policies and forcing cities to collaborate with ICE's chaos and cruelty actually undermines public safety.”
