Pennsylvania Man Schemed A Grisly Murder-For-Hire Plot, Cops Say

UPPER DUBLIN, PA – A 41-year-old man out of Montgomery County was arrested earlier in February after prosecutors allege the man tried to hire a hitman to murder his ex-girlfriend along with two other men she dated after their relationship ended.

On February 11th, Upper Dublin Township Police officers arrested Eric Berkowitz under suspicion of multiple counts of criminal solicitation for murder and attempted murder, alongside other charges, after Berkowitz allegedly contacted on old friend he knew from school and offered the individual $5,000 to kill his ex-girlfriend and two of her subsequent boyfriends.

Authorities say Berkowitz contacted his old school friend, later identified as Steven Luker, via Facebook messenger on February 10th, allegedly asking Luker to help him with the proposed triple-homicide plan. After receiving the alleged messages, Luker reportedly contacted authorities about the matter, with Upper Dublin Township Police and Montgomery County detectives working with Luker to set up a sting operation.

Prosecutors say after Luker contacted authorities, audio was captured of a conversation between the suspect and Luker where Berkowitz confirmed the murder-for-hire plot, allegedly telling Luker that he would “take care of the girl himself.” Police took Berkowitz into custody after the suspect entered an Uber parked outside of his home that was reportedly destined for an address matching his ex-girlfriend’s.

Upon Berkowitz’s arrest, police reportedly recovered a duffel bag in his possession which allegedly hosted a firearm, 23 rounds of 9mm ammunition, a sizable sum of cash as well as some cocaine.

Outside of the solicitation and attempted murder charges, Berkowitz was also charged with three counts of terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another, three counts of recklessly endangering another person, two counts of possession of an instrument of crime with intent, person not to possess/use a firearm - incompetent, possession of a weapon, intentional possession of a controlled substance by a person not registered and disorderly conduct.

Berkowitz is currently being held without bond at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, with his next scheduled court appearance slated for February 20th.
