BENSALEM, PA – A 58-year-old registered nurse from Pennsylvania, who is currently facing child endangerment charges for allegedly physically abusing a 3-year-old girl she was hired to provide overnight care for, has been accused in a lawsuit of having “a long history of abusing infants” under her care.

As previously reported in Law Enforcement Today, 58-year-old Cindy Desser was arrested on March 25th regarding the alleged child abuse of a medically vulnerable toddler under her care while working overnight at a Bensalem residence.

According to a press release from Bensalem Police regarding Desser’s arrest, home surveillance footage reportedly revealed “Desser throwing the child within the crib, striking the child, and sleeping during her shift,” with the department also highlighting another incident where the suspect allegedly “removed the child’s tracheostomy tube and failed to promptly reinsert it, causing the child to struggle to breathe.”

David and Meredith Nastasi, the parents of the victim in the case, have since filed a lawsuit against Lincoln Healthcare Services LLC, who employed Desser, accusing the home health services company of negligence in their onboarding of Desser despite the suspect reportedly having a “long history of abusing infants in her care.”

“Upon information and belief, Desser had a long history of abusing infants in her care and had worked stints with numerous other home health care companies that had either fired Desser or separated from Desser on poor terms by the time she was hired by Team Select in late 2024,” the lawsuit reads in part, which Team Select is the name Lincoln Healthcare Services LLC is doing business under.

The lawsuit further alleges that Desser was somehow hired at another home health services company after making bail on the child endangerment charges, claiming, “While Desser was out on bail for the criminal charges stemming from her attack on Z.N., she somehow managed to obtain employment with yet another home health care agency and abused another medically fragile toddler in Bucks County.”

Jeffrey P. Goodman, the attorney representing the family in the lawsuit, believes they have a strong case for a negligence claim, saying Lincoln Healthcare Services LLC either knew or should’ve reasonably known that Desser was “morally unfit to care for children” given her employment record and alleged conduct at various workplaces.
