WASHINGTON, DC – A press release from Homeland Security in early December revealed an alarming reality linked to New York’s sanctuary policies, showcasing how the state has ignored nearly 7,000 immigration detainers for some serious offenders since the onset of the Trump administration this past January.
According to Homeland Security’s December 1st press release, following a letter sent to New York Attorney General Letitia James alongside several other notable officials in other states this past September by Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons regarding the honoring of immigration detainers, the state of New York was highlighted due to the alarming number of criminal illegal aliens let loose by officials.
Reportedly 6,947 criminal illegal aliens have been released back onto the streets of New York since President Donald Trump assumed office on January 20th, with some of the offenders harboring arrests and convictions ranging from burglary to homicide and predatory sex offenses.
Homeland Security detailed a list of some of the worst criminal illegal aliens released back into various New York communities since the onset of the current administration, illustrating the potential dangers associated with sanctuary policies gone unchecked. Luckily, ICE was able to sidestep the hurdles presented by New York officials and take these individuals into custody.
Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin issued a statement pertaining to New York’s habitual disregard for public safety, saying, “Attorney General James and her fellow New York Sanctuary politicians are releasing murderers, terrorists, and sexual predators back into our neighborhoods and putting American lives at risk. We are calling on Letitia James to stop this dangerous derangement and commit to honoring the ICE arrest detainers of the more than 7,000 criminal illegal aliens in New York’s custody. It is common sense. Criminal illegal aliens should not be released back onto our streets to terrorize more innocent Americans.”
