EXCLUSIVE: Drug Czar Sara Carter Reveals How Faith Fuels Her Fight Against Cartels

WASHINGTON, DC – As National Police Week was coming to a close this past May, Kyle Reyes, the owner of Law Enforcement Today and Blue Lives Matter, had an opportunity to speak with the current administration’s appointed Drug Czar, Sara Carter, to discuss topics ranging from the ongoing war on drugs to how her faith impacts her leadership.

Back in January, Carter was confirmed by the Senate to serve as the Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. In Carter’s role, commonly referred to by administration officials as the “Drug Czar,” she was tasked with helping the current administration lead the “fight against illicit drugs and the drug cartels,” per the White House’s press release following her confirmation.

While speaking with Carter, Reyes pointedly asked what drives her to continue her mission when she could ostensibly leave her current role in the administration and “go make a million bucks a year just being an awesome leader in this country.” In response, Carter explained her love of the United States is what keeps her motivated in her current mission, highlighting the patriotism she observed with her father’s military career and her mother’s immigration from Cuba back in the 1960s.

“My mother came from Cuba in the 1960s on the Johnson Freedom flights, and it wasn't money - it wasn't anything that was important to them. It was family, and it was America. It was this country. My mom praised the United States every single day of her life until she passed away, and my father's greatest moments, besides his family, were fighting for his country and putting his country first. So, I grew up with that,” Carter explained.

Carter further delved into how her personal faith has led her to embarking upon a mission which she sees as serving something greater than herself, pointing to how her faith in God in turn translates into a faith for “the American people” she serves in her capacity.

“I have a deep faith in God,” Carter stated, adding, “and I don't believe that I would be here if it wasn't for my faith in God and my faith in the American people, and I just knew in my heart, I know it in my soul, deep in my soul, that there is something far greater than all of us, and that faith has guided me.”

When asked about what the American people can expect from Carter in the future as she delivers on her mission, the Drug Czar said the question could equally be framed as what the “cartels have to look forward to,” as she asserted the current administration is aiming to dismantle all facets of the cartels operating abroad.

“What do we have to look forward to? Well, it's what the drug cartels have to look forward to. Basically, the end of their organizations. That's what I have to look forward to, putting an end to them, destroying their capabilities, removing all of their financing, and taking them out. We are going to hunt them down everywhere they are. They will not find a cave, a house, a place - I don't even care if they want to escape from Mexico or Colombia or anywhere else, and they want to go hide out in Afghanistan. We're going to find them,” Carter emphasized.
