WASHINGTON, DC - House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced this week the formation of a new subcommittee to further look into the circumstances surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021 US Capitol siege, The Post Millennial reports.
The subcommittee will be headed by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), who previously led an investigation into the activities of the J6 Select Committee and the security shortcomings on that date. Before leaving office last Monday, Joe Biden issued blanket pardons to all lawmakers and staff who served on the committee. The new subcommittee will operate under the auspices of the House Judiciary Committee led by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH).
“House Republicans are proud of our work so far in exposing the false narratives peddled by the politically-motivated January 6 Select Committee during the 117th Congress, but there is still more work to be done,” Johnson said in a statement. “We are establishing this Select Subcommittee to continue our efforts to uncover the full truth that is owed to the American people. The composition and other details regarding the Select Subcommittee will be announced soon.”
Johnson’s announcement comes as the Republican Party continues looking into the events surrounding the Jan. 6 Capitol event. After Biden decided to pardon all those involved with the Jan 6 Select Committee, President Trump pardoned a large majority of those arrested in conjunction with the events of that date while commuting the sentences of those charged with more serious offenses.
“Rep. Loudermilk has been the leader in getting to the bottom of what the Democrat-led January 6 Committee failed to uncover, and we look forward to helping him bring all the facts to the American people,” Jordan said in a statement.
“I am honored to be tasked with continuing the investigation into the events surrounding January 6, 2021, and the failures that led to the breach of the United States Capitol. What happened at the Capitol that day was the result of a series of intelligence, security, and leadership failures at multiple levels within numerous entities. I appreciate Speaker Johnson’s commitment to our work, and I am looking forward to working with Chairman Jim Jordan to continue to uncover all the facts and begin the arduous task of making needed reforms to ensure this level of security failure may never happen again,” Loudermilk said in a statement.
After Biden issued the pardons of the J6 Select Committee conspiracists, President Trump slammed Biden for pardoning “of people that were very, very guilty of very bad crimes, like the unselect committee of political thugs.” These remarks came during remarks to lawmakers at a Capitol Hill Luncheon on Monday.
After the J6 Select Committee show hearings, perhaps the American people will finally get the real truth of what happened on Jan. 6, 2021, and who is to blame for the intelligence and security failures that led to the incident, which took the life of unarmed military veteran Ashli Babbitt and led to scores of injuries to protesters and Capitol police officers.
