Teen who burned rubber on a rainbow-colored "mural" has hammer dropped on him by activist judge

DELRAY BEACH, FL- Burn the American flag? Free speech. Burn rubber on a sacred rainbow-colored crosswalk? Two years probation, a huge fine, community service, and loss of your driver’s license.

This past week, a Florida teen learned the hard way that the First Amendment right to free expression is lost if one dares to defy the alphabet mafia.

Dylan Brewer, 19, of Clearwater, Florida, pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of reckless driving and criminal mischief. Court documents show Brewer intentionally damaged a rainbow-colored mural in Delray Beach by doing burnouts, the Post Millennial reports.

Palm Beach County Judge Daliah Weiss revoked Brewer’s license for one year, ordered him to pay $5,568.71 in fines to Delray Beach, perform 150 hours of community service, and complete eight hours of anger management classes, the Palm Beach Post reported.

He would have been better off traveling to New York City, Chicago, or Boston and pushing someone in front of a subway train, which would have gotten him a slap on the wrist and thanks for participating in the criminal justice system on his way out the courtroom door.

Weiss demanded Brewer offer an explanation of what happened and whether he understood the “seriousness” of daring to leave rubber on rainbow-colored paint on a city street. Clearly feeling he had no choice but to bend to the whims of the alphabet mafia, he offered an apology.

“It was not my intention to cause any harm outside of having some fun with friends,” Brewer told Weiss. “I do realize now the harm that was caused afterwards toward the community, and I’m very sorry for my actions and putting my family and the court through this.”

However, the radical alphabet mob wasn't satisfied with the apology and plea deal. Rand Hoch, founder of the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council, one of two groups that paid for the $17,000 rainbow-colored desecration of a city street crossing, demanded his pound of flesh and expressed dismay over the plea deal provided to the teen.

In a statement, Hoch released a statement saying, “Brewer’s light sentence will do little to deter other anti-LGBTQ+ hatemongers from attacking our community in the future.” The damaged rainbow-colored street crossing was unavailable for comment.

Delray Beach Police allege that on February 4, 2024, Brewer drove his Dodge Ram pickup through the intersection containing a vomit of various colors and performed multiple “burnouts” on the “mural,” located at the intersection of Northeast First Street and Northeast Second Street.

“He went through the intersection not once, not twice, not three times in a retrofitted vehicle that caused great damage to our community,” Hoch whined. “We now feel threatened when we are in Delray Beach, which is sad because it’s a very open community.”

The Human Rights Council and the AIDS Healthcare Foundation funded the display.

Brewer offered a further apology before the judge dropped the hammer on him, saying, “Me going over [the intersection] multiple times has brought a lot of setback, if you would say, towards their community, and I’m deeply sorry for any harm that I have caused.”
