MORRISVILLE, NC – An individual suffered what was described as a “medical emergency” outside of a private event venue located in Morrisville earlier in August following an incident involving gunfire outside of the aforementioned venue.
According to officials, officers from the Morrisville Police Department responded to a shots fired call at approximately 2:00 a.m. on August 17th at a plaza located along the 4000 block of Davis Drive.
When officers arrived on the scene, a group of roughly 20 individuals were attending a private event at the UTSAV Event Venue, with witnesses telling police that an unknown person had fired a gun outside the establishment, which “caused a stampede.”
While no one suffered any injuries from apparent gunfire, authorities say one person had fallen down amid the chaos and subsequently went into a seizure. The unnamed individual was transported to an area hospital and has since been treated, according to authorities.
A press release from MPD emphasized, “No other damage to property or injuries have been reported.”
No arrests have been made in the case and police are actively investigating the incident, asking potential witnesses or anyone with information to contact MPD’s non-emergency line at 919-463-1600.
While Morrisville has a violent crime rate fairly below that of the national average, the general area where the August 17th incident occurred was also host to another notable shooting incident two years earlier in June of 2023.
Approximately one and a half miles south of the UTSAV venue at the intersection of Davis Drive and Morrisville Carpenter Road, a teenager and two other victims were shot on the evening of June 17th, 2023.
In the June 2023 incident, police said three gunshot wound victims, one of which was 17 years old, were located inside of an Audi stopped in the roadway. Witnesses told police that an unknown individual opened fire upon the vehicle occupants and fled the area in a dark-colored sedan.
Locals in the area were shocked at the brazen nature of the incident, with one witness telling a local news outlet at the time, “This isn't really a place where that would really happen. It's a residential area. There's a lot going on. Davis Drive is somewhere we drive every day. So we were just really shocked.”
