MCALLEN, TX – A 33-year-old illegal alien from Mexico with a lengthy criminal history and alleged gang ties was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)in Texas earlier in September, with the agency emphasizing the criminal alien’s prior deportation order and numerous unlawful reentries into the country.
On September 9th, ICE agents working out of the Rio Grande Valley sector took into custody Gerardo Cesar Ramirez-Garza, a criminal alien who reportedly is a member of the notorious gang the Sureños and has several prior arrests for various violent offenses as well as a felony conviction of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the agency, Ramirez-Garza first entered the country as a child lawfully back in April of 1992 by way of a nonimmigrant visa but had apparently overstayed his outlined required departure date. Ramirez-Garza’s criminal history apparently began as a juvenile, racking up multiple arrests between 2005 and 2010 for charges such as assault causing bodily injury. By the time Ramirez-Garza was 18 years old in February of 2010, he was removed from the country.
Despite being removed back in 2010, Ramirez-Garza reportedly illegally reentered the United States some time prior to April of 2012, as he was found guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Hidalgo County, Texas, and was subsequently sentenced to two years in prison. Following Ramirez-Garza’s prison stint, he reportedly reentered the United States illegally several other times between 2014 and 2018, eventually receiving a final deportation order in January of 2018.
Deportation orders and removals have seemingly never dissuaded Ramirez-Garza, as he managed to reenter the country at some point between his September arrest and his last deportation seven years earlier. Following his latest arrest by ICE, Ramirez-Garza is now facing charges of illegal reentry after deportation, which based upon his prior conviction in Texas could result in up to a decade or more in federal prison if found guilty.
ICE HSI Rio Grande Valley Deputy Special Agent in Charge Mark Lippa shared a statement following Ramirez-Garza’s arrest, saying, “This dangerous convicted felon will no longer roam the streets of South Texas. His arrest highlights HSI’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding our communities from the threats posed by transnational criminal organizations and Sureño gang member who flagrantly violate our immigration laws. We remain steadfast in our mission to work alongside our partners to ensure that those who endanger public safety are swiftly brought to justice and permanently removed from our neighborhoods.”
