TEXAS – Police officers all across Texas are teaming up with the casual steakhouse restaurant Texas Roadhouse to help raise funds for Special Olympics Texas, where the participating officers will be serving up the meals as opposed to the traditional waitstaff.
Tip-A-Cop for Special Olympics Texas is slated to hold fundraisers across dozens of Texas Roadhouse locations later in July, with the multi-venue event putting a unique spin on the traditional dining experience guests typically have when dining at the restaurant.
Instead of would-be diners getting their food served by the normal waitstaff, guests will be treated with world-class service from none other than police officers from all across the Lone Star State.
“Join us Thursday, July 24th at Texas Roadhouse for a night that’s all about good food, great people, and giving back,” the flyer for the event reads, “Members of the Law Enforcement Torch Run will be trading badges for aprons and serving dinner to raise funds for our incredible Special Olympics athletes — who will be there as our guests of honor!”
While the main flyer notes Texas Roadhouse locations will be hosting the event on July 24th, various locations will be holding the event additional days prior to and after the 24th.
For those unable to attend the festivities at any of the Texas Roadhouse locations, the Special Olympics Texas website does have donation links available for those who wish to support the effort.
The upcoming fundraising event is part of the broader fundraising outfit known as the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which has been raising funds for Special Olympics Games for decades across the United States.
Started back in 1981 by Wichita Police Chief Richard LaMunyon, the Law Enforcement Torch Run has served as the “Special Olympics’ largest grassroots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle in the world.”
The torch runs in question have local police officers carrying the “Flame of Hope” across their community to be delivered in the ceremonial fashion to their respective Special Olympics Games.
