Democrats Freak Out Over Trump's Move to Curb DC Violence With Federal Police Takeover

WASHINGTON, DC- Once again, Democrats find themselves on the wrong side of a 90/10 issue, this time in our nation’s capital.

As reported by Law Enforcement Today earlier this week, President Trump, fed up with the scourge of crime in Washington, DC, federalized the DC Metro Police Department and deployed federal law enforcement resources and the National Guard to the city.

One of those detractors is Fox News contributor and former DC Metro homicide detective Ted Williams, who must have been absent during constitutional law class concerning the president’s Article II powers.

“While the president may mean well, this is going nowhere fast,” he told Fox News Digital. “DC is not a war zone. The lawsuits for constitutional violations are coming. This is overkill.”

Williams claimed that criminals will “wait out” the federalization and return when the National Guard deployment ends.

“Jo Jo and his boys are going on vacation and will return after this crazy experiment ends.”

Washington, DC operates under “Home Rule,” an act that was passed in 1973 under President Richard Nixon. Under Section 740 of the Home Rule Act, the president is entirely within his rights to federalize the DC Metro Police Department. The act further states that the president should “determine that special conditions of an emergency nature exist which require the use of the Metropolitan Police force for federal purposes.”

President Trump complied with that section when he declared a crime state of emergency in our nation’s capital, WUSA-9 reported.

Before holding an Oval Office press conference on Monday, the president invoked presidential powers under the Home Rule Act to take federal control of the police department.

He also signed statutorily required notification letters to DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and relevant congressional leaders.

Under the federal takeover, which must be renewed after 30 days, Trump placed control of the agency in the hands of Attorney General Pam Bondi.

At the same time he issued his executive orders, he also signed a presidential memorandum directing Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to deploy the National Guard to DC to assist Metro police officers and federal law enforcement agencies.

Unlike Williams, National Fraternal Order of Police President Joe Gamaldi praised the president’s response.

“Their average homicide rate has doubled in the last 10 years. They used to average less than 100 homicides. Now they average over 200,’ Gamaldi said. The city’s crime data backs up those claims.

“And it’s because you have a radical element on that city council that has defunded their police. They have embraced revolving door criminal justice policies. And frankly, they treated the hardworking men and women of law enforcement in that town like crap. So, of course, they need help. You have to do something. Otherwise, it’s going to get out of control.”

Some might say, it already is. The following high-profile incidents in the city have contributed to Trump’s decision to finally do something:

  • Edward “Big Balls” Coristine, a former DOGE staffer, was beaten to a pulp during an attempted carjacking last week after he tried to protect his girlfriend from the savage thugs. Coristine pushed his girlfriend inside his vehicle and was forced to fight off a large group of teenagers. Thus far, two 15-year-olds–one male and one female–have been arrested in connection with the crime.
  • On June 30, Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, 21, was shot and killed. He was studying at UMass Amherst and was an intern for Rep. Ron Estes (R-KS). Several people exited a vehicle and started shooting. Tarpinian-Jachym was caught in the crossfire. The FBI is assisting with the case, however, no suspects have been arrested
  • On May 21, two staffers from the Israeli embassy were shot and killed while leaving an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in what was described as a targeted shooting. Yaron Lischinsky, an Israeli, and Sarah Milgrim, an American, who were engaged to be married, were the victims. The suspect, Elias Rodriguez, 31, of Chicago, was captured right away and has been charged with the murders, plus federal hate crimes. He allegedly shouted “Free Palestine” while in custody.
  • On May 17, a roving gang of approximately 100 teenagers terrorized the Navy Yard neighborhood in the vicinity of Nationals Park, where the MLB Washington Nationals play. That marked the second such takeover in a month. According to WUSA-9, one group of teens beat two bystanders, punching them, knocking them to the ground, then stomping on them.
  • On May 9, a Congressional staffer was the victim of an armed carjacking in the Navy Yard neighborhood. The staffer, who works in the office of Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA), was robbed of his government-issued iPhone, MacBook, ID, and Capitol parking pass. The stolen car was recovered the next day, and two teenagers, whose ages prevented identification, were arrested.
  • In late 2023, Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) was carjacked by armed, masked men outside an apartment building also in the Navy Yard neighborhood. Cuellar told reporters he did not fight back for his “own safety.” In referencing his attackers, Cuellar called them “punks with guns” and slammed the city’s soft-on-crime policies.
  • In February of that same year, Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN) was attacked in the elevator of her apartment. Police identified Kendrick Hamlin, 26, as the suspect. Craig said Hamlin punched her in the chin and grabbed her around the neck. She was able to fight him off with a hot cup of coffee she was carrying.

There are many more incidents, too numerous to detail, however those other incidents included the 2023 beating death of a homeless man with a metal pipe near the Ellipse in downtown DC< and a Metropolitan Area Transit Authority police officer who was stabbed in the face near the DC Navy Yard subway station.

In response to Trump’s crackdown on crime in DC, pro-crime Democrats and typical grievance protesters have taken to the streets to protest Trump getting criminals off the streets.

They appear to want to be complicit in their own demise.
