ICE Bust at Georgia Hyundai Plant Sparks Trump Call to Train American Workers

WASHINGTON, DC – Following the massive Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid at a Hyundai facility in Georgia that resulted in hundreds of illegal workers being arrested, President Donald Trump told reporters that American workers likely need training from the very sort of illegal immigrants holding these kinds of jobs.

Earlier in September, ICE agents alongside Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents descended upon a Hyundai battery facility in Savannah, Georgia, where reportedly 475 illegal workers, largely from South Korea, were taken into custody.

Auto manufacturer Hyundai, which is headquartered in South Korea, claims that while they own the under construction battery facility where the illegal workers were arrested, the auto manufacturer swears they weren’t directly employed by the company.

On September 7th, President Trump was asked about the immigration enforcement operation conducted at the Hyundai plant in Georgia, with the president remarking how Americans may be lacking the necessary training needed to hold the sorts of jobs that the illegal workers were busted for.

“If you don’t have people in this country right now that know about batteries, maybe we should help them along,” President Trump stated, noting how certain industries have largely been absent in the United States for seemingly decades, thus resulting in American workers likely not being able to fulfill certain roles stateside, adding, “So, we’re going to look at that whole situation. We have a lot of industries that we don’t have any more, and we’re going to have to train people.”

While President Trump acknowledges that ICE was correct in their execution of the raid at the Hyundai facility, the president also conceded, “We do have to work something out where we bring in experts so that our people can be trained so that they can do it themselves.”

Taking to Truth Social, President Trump further reiterated the notion that companies operating within the United States need to respect American immigration laws while adding that his administration would be willing to welcome “very smart people” into the country who could train American workers.

“Your investments are welcome, and we encourage you to LEGALLY bring your very smart people, with great technical talent, to build World Class products, and we will make it quickly and legally possible for you to do so. What we ask in return is that you hire and train American Workers. Together, we will all work hard to make our Nation not only productive, but closer in unity than ever before. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” the president posted to social media.
