President Trump Reveals Next City to Receive Federal Law Enforcement Surge

MEMPHIS, TN – During an appearance on Fox News earlier in September, President Donald Trump shared the location of the next D.C.-styled federal law enforcement operation, telling the Fox News hosts that Memphis, Tennessee, is on the radar for the administration.

President Trump made the announcement regarding the next location for his administration’s crackdown on rampant crime across various U.S. cities during an appearance on Fox & Friends on September 12th, saying Memphis is next on the list to see the deployment of federal law enforcement.

According to President Trump, state and local officials from both political parties are welcoming the federal government’s assistance, telling Fox News, “We’re going to Memphis. [It is] deeply troubled, and the mayor is happy. The Democrat mayor [Paul Young] is happy. And the [Republican] Governor [Bill Lee] is happy.”

The president gave credit to a friend of his regarding the idea to take the operation over to Memphis, noting how said friend is both a railroad executive and on the board of FedEx, telling the news outlet, “He said, ‘When I walk one block to my hotel, they won’t allow me to do it. They put me in an armored vehicle with bulletproof glass to take me one block.’ He said, ‘It’s so terrible.’”

Trump previously hinted at the idea of targeting Chicago with an operation similar to the one kicked off in Washington, D.C. earlier this year, largely due to the city’s notorious reputation for violent crime. During the interview on Fox News, President Trump admitted to the hosts, “I would have preferred going to Chicago,” but settled on Memphis when gaining an understanding of the crime currently impacting the city.

Data from Neighborhood Scout shows Memphis is home to over 16k violent crimes and nearly 54k property crimes per year, averaging out to slightly over one out of every ten Memphis residents being the victim of either a violent or property crime annually. In a report from WSMV4, Memphis was highlighted as having one of the highest violent crime rates in the country.

With the aforementioned in mind, President Trump concluded Memphis was the way to go in terms of priorities, telling Fox News, “So we’re going to Memphis. I’m just announcing that now, and we’ll straighten that out.”
