Virginia: Three Illegal Aliens with Child Sex Crime Convictions Now Facing Immigration Detainers

STAUNTON, VA - Homeland Security issued a press release earlier in August announcing the issuance of federal immigration detainers for three illegal aliens currently facing charges in Virginia for various sex crimes against children, pointing to the state’s “sanctuary” policies under Governor Abigail Spanberger’s administration as creating “a hotbed of illegal alien crime.”

Three inmates currently housed at the Middle River Regional Jail in Staunton, Virginia, have had federal immigration detainers lodged against them, according to Homeland Security, with the agency highlighting that all three suspects are currently facing charges in the state for various sex crimes involving children.

Jail records confirm the arrests of 48-year-old Efren Ramirez Escobedo, 40-year-old Santos Bautista-Molina and 31-year-old Bayron Jose De Paz-Lopez, all of whom were arrested in late July and are reportedly residing illegally in the United States.

Escobedo, an illegal alien from Mexico, is currently facing charges of sexual assault of a victim between 13 and 14 years old alongside a charge of sexual assault/forcible intercourse. Bautista-Molina, an illegal alien from Honduras, is currently facing nine charges of child solicitation and a charge of attempted sex offense with a child under 15 years old. De Paz-Lopez, an illegal alien from Guatemala, is currently facing nine counts of child solicitation and attempted sex offense with a child under 15 years old.

According to Homeland Security, Bautista-Molina entered the United States illegally back in 2005 through Texas, De Paz-Lopez illegally entered the country via Arizona back in 2021, and Escobedo reportedly illegally entered the United States at an unknown date and location.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin issued a statement regarding the issuance of the immigration detainers, laying blame on the “sanctuary politicians” in Virginia, like Governor Spanberger, for reportedly fostering an environment that attracts would-be illegal alien offenders to the state.

“DHS is calling on Governor Abigail Spanberger and her fellow sanctuary politicians to commit to not releasing these criminals from jail and to instead hand them over to ICE. Under Spanberger, the Commonwealth of Virginia has become a magnet for illegal alien crime. These reckless sanctuary policies are putting American lives at risk,” Secretary Mullin stated.
