RENTON, WA - Police are investigating after someone allegedly set clothing on fire inside a Walmart on Friday night, June 5, forcing the evacuation of the entire store.
The fire was reported just before 8:00 p.m., according to the Renton Police Department (RPD). Firefighters responded and ventilated the building to clear smoke while officers began an arson investigation, KING5 reported. No injuries were reported and no one required medical attention, police confirmed.
Renton police spokesperson Meeghan Black said that detectives are reviewing surveillance video to identify a suspect. Investigators have not yet determined exactly how the fire was started. Police returned the store to Walmart management at 11:09 p.m., according to Black.
The store was closed for the day on Saturday, June 6. RPD said that the incident caused an estimated $100,000 in damage, according to KIRO7. The investigation remains ongoing.
