Boyfriend, on parole for another violent crime, arrested after pushing woman onto NYC subway tracks causing leg loss

NEW YORK CITY, NY - A woman is hospitalized following being pushed onto NYC subway tracks and struck by an inbound train. Her boyfriend has been arrested in connection to the incident.

According to police, the incident took place around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday on the Fulton Street subway station platform. When NYPD officers arrived on scene, they reportedly located the victim with injuries to her legs due to being struck by the train. She was conscious and responsive and transported to Bellevue Hospital where she faced amputation on her legs and was listed in stable condition.

The NYPD incident report stated that “further investigation determined that the female was pushed onto the tracks by a 35-year-old male after they were engaged in a domestic dispute.”

ABC News reports that Christian Valdez was arrested in lower Manhattan approximately 11 hours after the incident took place.

This is not the first time Valdez has been in trouble for violent crimes. In September 2017, Valdez was arrested for a home invasion in the Bronx. In that incident, he stabbed a woman and attempted to throw her three-year-old daughter off a third story fire escape.

A good Samaritan told ABC News that he and another neighbor intervened in that attack, ultimately saving the child. Valdez was sentenced to eight years in prison after his 2020 conviction of second-degree attempted assault in the Bronx incident.

Valdez was on parole at the time of Saturday’s attack after being released from Sing Sing Correctional Facility in January of 2023, according to records.

The victim, who has not been identified, remains in the hospital after suffering multiple rib fractures, as well as a blood clot in her lungs. Her doctor also listed in the criminal complaint that her left leg was amputated above the knee, and her right leg was amputated below the knee.

Valdez has been charged with felony assault and attempted murder. The New York Post reported that Valdez was arraigned Sunday night and is being held without bail.
