DOTHAN, AL – A 32-year-old Alabama man learned his fate in court earlier in May regarding a domestic violence incident from February of 2025 that left his ex-girlfriend nearly dead after she was struck multiple times in the head and body with a claw hammer inside her Houston County home.
Latarius Mylik Dale was initially arrested back in February 2025 on charges of first-degree domestic violence and burglary after he reportedly broke into the victim’s home, later identified as Brittany Moulton, and proceeded to attack the woman with a claw hammer. Moulton was left for dead by Dale, with the victim mustering the strength to make it to a neighbor’s home who didn’t answer their door before she fell unconscious on their front lawn.
Moulton had been previously romantically involved with Dale before ultimately ending things with him shortly before the attack, recounting in an interview from October 2025 how she’d “blocked him” from being able to contact her.
“He knew it was over with; he had no control. He knew that day I had blocked him he couldn’t get in contact with me, didn’t know where I was or what I was doing. He was assuming I was out doing things with people,” Moulton said at the time of the interview.
The injuries Moulton suffered were immense, having spent 14 days at UAB Hospital in Birmingham where she required surgery leading to a metal plate being placed inside her head and losing sight in her right eye due to her retina being torn from the attack.
Despite Dale’s lack of any prior felony convictions, Judge John Steensland clearly sent a message with the delivered sentence on May 21st, sentencing Dale to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
Moulton was reportedly pleased with the outcome in court, saying after Dale’s sentencing, “I do feel that justice was served, and I hope that I can be a voice for other victims to not give up and to stay strong. There’s always options for help. If anyone ever needs any help, any advice, or to contact the resources, never hesitate. I stand with all the victims.”
