DETROIT, MI - In response to the recent break-ins of multi-million dollar homes in Detroit and its surrounding areas, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard stated that a new task force has been created to address and combat these crimes that are suddenly plaguing the area.

According to ABC7, at least 30 to 40 homes have been burglarized since September in the Detroit area alone. In those incidents, the thieves got away with cash, jewelry and expensive handbags within minutes of breaking in.

The crews, which are believed to consist of four to six people, are mostly from Latin America. Bouchard said the crews working southeast Michigan are believed to be mostly Chilean. Bouchard described the crews as highly functional and well-trained.

Bouchard said that transnational gangs are operating across the entire country and they are targeting high-end homes, jewelry stores and cars in many of those areas. He said that in Oakland County, the thieves are mostly targeting expensive homes.

Bouchard said that when entering the homes, the thieves use a jammer to overcome wireless security systems that depend on WiFi to operate. The crews are all dressed in black, with backpacks and gloves. They are non-confrontational with the goal of getting in and out of the home as quickly as possible.

The crews reportedly target high-end homes that they can approach from the back without being observed. They enter through the windows and often do so on the second story of the house. They are looking for high-end valuable that can be sold off quickly. The crews have been known to take smaller to medium-size safes, provided they can easily transport them to another location.

Bouchard confirmed that a safe from one of their burglaries was recovered in Livingston County. As of this writing, four people are in custody in the Oakland County Jail for their connection to this ring. Others are in custody in other parts of the country and the task force is working to connect them to burglaries in Michigan.

Bouchard said that people looking to protect their homes should focus on redundant systems that do not rely solely on WiFi for communication. He also said that people who live in areas that fit the "pattern" of the burglaries should consider calling police if their WiFi goes down and they cannot figure out why.

According to reports, Bouchard said that the burglaries in Oakland County appear to be targeted and not random, stating that the thieves tend to break in between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., and that the crews prefer to target houses that are isolated and back up to wooded areas, trails, golf courses or the like.

The recently created task force, known as SEM CAB or Southeast Michigan Collaborate Arrest Procedure, is comprised of the following departments and agencies: Auburn Hills Police Department, Berkley Police Department, Bloomfield Township Police Department, Canton Police Department, Chesterfield Township Police Department, Farmington Hills Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Franklin Police Department, Grosse Pointe Farms Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, Keego Harbor Police Department, Lake Angelus Police Department, Lathrup Police Department, Macomb County Sheriff's Office, Michigan State Police, Northville Township Police Department, Novi Police Department, Oakland County Sheriff's Office, Oxford Village Police Department, Rochester Police Department, Shelby Townshop Police Department, Southfield Police Department, Sylvan Lake Police Department, Troy Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, the U.S. Secret Service, Walled Lake Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff's Office, Waterford Townshop Polce Department, and White Lake Township Police Department.

Time to get a Doberman or two that are trained to go for the neck or the gonads ! Give them the run of the house 24/7 ! Just make sure they don't understand Spanish !!!

GEE! I wonder what occurrence could have spawned this activity. It couldn't be the 8 million illegal immigrants that have invaded America in the last three years!

Laurence

Another benefit of immigration. Just how did these criminals get in here in the first place? Good citizens of Detroit should take firearm training so these criminals can be shot!
