WASHINGTON, DC – While the government shutdown was coming to a resolution, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were continuing the current administration’s mission to apprehend the “worst of the worst” criminal illegal aliens despite what has become the longest government shutdown in American history.
On November 10th, the Senate approved in a 60-40 vote to end the government shutdown following weeks of political negotiations and bickering between the parties, which said shutdown impacted the pay of federal workers. While some federal workers opted to take time off while their pay was on hold, ICE agents continued carrying out immigration enforcement operations to apprehend “some of the worst criminal illegal aliens from across the country,” according to a November 10th press release from Homeland Security.
Homeland Security detailed a list of 15 notable arrests made by ICE during the weekend preceding Veterans Day, with the listed arrestees harboring convictions ranging from forcible rape of a child to murder.
Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin issued a timely statement regarding the continuing efforts of ICE apprehending what the administration has coined as the “worst of the worst” offenders despite the government shutdown.
“Unlike the Democrats - who perpetuated the longest government shutdown in American history - ICE law enforcement officers are hard at work for the American people,” McLaughlin stated, adding, “While Americans were enjoying their weekends, our brave ICE law enforcement were arresting child rapists, murderers, kidnappers, robbers, and drug traffickers. President Trump and Secretary Noem’s message is clear: If you come to our country illegally and break our laws, you WILL be arrested and deported. And you will never return.”
