Oakland, CA: Law enforcement officials reported that Jeffrey McMaster Jr, 44, used his "hands and feet" to beat a female, later identified as 47-year-old Leslie Marshall, to death at a government-subsidized housing building. The beating was captured on surveillance video.

According to police, McMaster was quoted as saying, "I keep doing sh** like this," in an apparent display of regret and remorse.

It was also reported that McMaster "pummeled the woman with his hands and feet outside the Twin Peaks Hotel", located in a seemingly quiet Oakland neighborhood.

Following the vicious beating, the suspect then allegedly strolled back to his motel room, where police found him with blood on his hands.

The victim's body was later found behind the building where they both resided.

According to the Oakland PD press release, "OPD officers took 44-year-old Oakland resident Jeffrey McMaster into custody the same day as the homicide of the 47-year-old victim."

It is unclear at this time what sparked the incident that led to the gruesome beating, but it appears to be in line with McMaster's violent past.

A History of Violent Attacks

In 2008, McMaster was charged and ultimately found guilty of attempting to sexually assault a woman and sentenced to four years in prison.

It was then that McMaster told investigators that, "I'm not fit for society" and "I keep doing sh** like this."

In 2023, McMaster was charged with assault after he allegedly beat a roommate, and the victim suffered a broken eye socket.

While in jail for the charge, it was reported that he then assaulted a cellmate by biting his ear and stabbing him with a pencil. The victim told authorities that McMaster also tried to suffocate him with a plastic bag.

It was also reported that McMaster was previously found guilty of elder abuse and once tried to choke a woman by placing the weight of his body on his hand on the victim's throat. Details of the violent acts were unavailable.

When released in 2013, the California Department of Justice deemed McMaster as an “above average risk” on their official risk score, which predicts the “risk of sexual re-offense.”

McMaster is currently sitting in the county jail without bail pending the outcome of the murder charges.
