HUNSTVILLE, TX - Less than two weeks after he was shot while responding to a call, Sgt. Kyle Dockery of the Huntsville Police Department has been released from the hospital. His foreseeable future includes plenty of rest and physical therapy.
On Thursday, October 12th, Dockery responded to a call of a man "acting erratically" at an apartment complex on the west side of Huntsville, which is 70 miles north of Houston.
Upon their arrival, according to KPRC, officers discovered a man brandishing a firearm. Officers made contact with the suspect and shots were fired. After the chaos settled, the suspect was dead and Sgt. Dockery was wounded, having been shot multiple times in his leg.
He was transported to Conroe where he underwent surgery.
After the shooting, Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman issued a statement in support of Sgt. Dockery on behalf of his agency.
“The men and women of Constable Mark Herman's Office pray for a speedy and full recovery of 17-year Huntsville Police Department veteran Sergeant Kyle Dockery. He has completed a successful surgery after being shot multiple times by a suspect.”
While he spent nearly two weeks in the hospital, he continued to rehab and remained in good spirits.
“Several Huntsville Police Officers were at the scene when Kyle was shot and all acted heroically,” the department said. “One of those officers, Cpl. John French, returns to work tomorrow, and we are thankful for his return as well.”
After his release from the hospital, the department hosted a reception for Dockery, who is a 17-year veteran with Huntsville, and his family at the police department.
“Chief Slaven and the entire department would like to thank everyone that attended, along with everyone that has supported Kyle and the Huntsville Police Department during this time,” the department said.
“It’s a small community and it’s a small first responder community around here and just about everybody was there when it happened, and just about everybody was here to see him come home,” added Wade Roberts, Support Services Lieutenant.
“He’s got a ways to go, obviously, with the recovery. He suffered some pretty significant injuries that are going to take a while to recover from, but I know the community will continue to support him, I know we will continue to support him.”
We are grateful that Dockery survived his injuries. Please join Law enforcement Today in praying for him, his family and his department as they continue to navigate rehab in hopes of him making a full recovery.
