New York Gov Doubles Down on Sanctuary Agenda

ALBANY, NY – Democrat officials within New York are reportedly staying the course regarding planned sanctuary measures within the state meant to limit state/local collaboration with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), despite Border Czar Tom Homan’s warning that continued sanctuary efforts will result in a “flood” of federal immigration officers and agents.

On May 5th, Homan stated during a border security conference referring to ongoing sanctuary efforts within New York that if the state continues down its path of shielding illegal immigrants, then those very officials can expect a surge in federal immigration enforcement.

“What’s going to happen with places like New York and people pass ridiculous legislation not to work with us, we’re going to flood the zone. You’re going to see more ICE agents than you’ve ever seen before. So, congratulations,” Homan said during the conference.

In response to the warning from Homan, Democratic New York State Senator Pat Fahy said, “If anything, that makes me want to double down,” alluding to a more fervent pursuit of anti-ICE measures and legislation. Meanwhile, Governor Kathy Hochul alongside lawmakers within New York are reportedly edging closer to a number of legislative measures that would further inhibit state and local law enforcement from meaningfully collaborating with ICE.

According to Politico, some of the aforementioned legislative efforts would hamper the execution of administrative warrants often used by ICE to apprehend illegal aliens, such as restricting said warrants from being executed at “educational facilities and houses of worship.”

Senator Fahy framed the legislative efforts as a stance against what he described as “a reign of terror” from ICE, saying, “We have to show that when you have people who are out on the streets like a reign of terror, armed masked agents wreaking havoc, we have to show it will not be tolerated.”

Another New York Democrat, Senator Andrew Gounardes, said of the matter, “One of the reasons why we’ve been so focused on immigration and curtailing the abuses of ICE is because of what Tom Homan and DHS have been doing all across the country. Whether it’s a bluff or not we’re not going to stand for it.”

Republican gubernatorial hopeful, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, countered the stances coming from the opposite end of the political aisle, saying, “Working with ICE, rather than against ICE, has made the state safer. We don’t have the issues that they had in Minneapolis.”
