Twin Cities: Feds Launch Immigration Crackdown After Massive Somali Fraud Scandal

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN - ICE and Homeland Security are zeroing in on the Twin Cities in the next phase of immigration enforcement, The New York Times reported earlier this week. The move comes as Minnesota Democrats have become increasingly defiant of the administration’s efforts to roll back the Biden administration’s open border policies that allowed millions of illegals to invade the country.

The Trump administration has been engaged in an escalating war of words with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), a Somali immigrant who, despite the opportunities afforded her by the United States, continues to slam the country.

The move against illegals in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area comes after reports have come out about financial scams committed by Somalis in the area to the tune of at least $1 billion, possibly much more. The president’s rhetoric increased after last week’s shooting of two National Guard members in Washington, D.C. by an Afghan national.

The effort, which is focusing primarily on Somalis, the largest immigrant population in the Twin Cities area, will focus primarily on those with final deportation orders; however, others could be swept up in the operation, according to an official who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The Times reported that the plan calls for strike teams, composed of ICE officers, agents, and other federal officials, to be deployed in the area. Approximately 100 officers and agents from around the U.S. have been brought in for the operation.

Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement that DHS doesn’t discuss “future or potential operations.”

“What makes someone a target of ICE is not their race or ethnicity, but the fact that they are in the country illegally,” she said.

The operation in Minnesota follows similar efforts in cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and Charlotte, N.C., that have swept up scores of illegal aliens, many of them with violent criminal histories. The administration hopes the crackdown will spur illegal aliens to self-deport, which the administration says is a more desirable outcome than targeted operations.

According to The Times, the surge of federal agents is designed to “scare migrants” in hopes they will accept the offer to self-deport. The outlet accused the president of employing “dark rhetoric” to achieve self-deportation.

After news came out of the Somali scam, taking advantage of COVID-era government handouts, President Trump said he was going to end temporary legal protection for Somalis, which has been in place for decades. Individuals of Somali descent stole money and used the funds for luxury items, including homes, cars, and expensive clothing. The money was supposed to be used for “Feeding Our Future,” a non-profit that was supposed to feed children in need.

Minnesota is home to the largest Somali immigrant population in the country, many of whom came illegally under the Biden administration. Somalia is a lawless country, and many of those who fled to the United States have maintained that mindset, which is why Trump took action.

Last week, the president slammed Omar, who has been a constant thorn in his side, saying she “probably came into the U.S.A. illegally,” and commented that she had married her brother as a means to get into the country. That rumor has been around for yearshowever, it has never been proven beyond a doubt.

Concerning Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the failed vice-presidential candidate, who ran as Kamala Harris’s running mate, the president referred to him as “seriously retarded” for allowing Somalis to overrun Minnesota.

Last Monday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, citing a New York Times report, said Somalis had “ripped off” American taxpayers, with critics claiming only a small number of Somalis had been accused of fraud.
