Chicago Democrat Under Fire for Doxing ICE Agents, Sharing Their Cars and License Plates

CHICAGO, IL – An Illinois House Democrat is facing immense scrutiny amid doxing allegations after the individual sent out an email blast listing the makes/models of vehicles, alongside the accompanying license plate numbers, of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents spotted in the greater Chicago area.

Illinois House Democrat Margaret Croke has injected herself into the broader national discourse surrounding the safety of ICE agents engaged in the performance of their duties, as the Chicago-based legislator recently sent out an online flyer dubbed “Updated list of ICE vehicles seen today” on October 24.

As previously reported in Law Enforcement Today, Democrat officials in and outside of Washington have been ramping up efforts to expose the identities of ICE agents enforcing federal immigration law. Earlier in October, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass stood alongside Democrat Congressman Robert Garcia during a press conference when the latter of the two announced intentions to create an ICE tracking website.

Rep. Croke, who assumed office representing the 12th District in 2021, sent out the email with an accompanying narrative preceding the ICE agents’ makes/models and plate numbers of vehicles, alleging ICE agents enforcing immigration law in Chicago are engaged in “unlawful” activity.

“Just as we have witnessed in neighborhoods across our city,” Rep. Croke noted in the email, “ICE is conducting their unlawful and undemocratic actions in the 12th House district, including the very block I reside on.”

The Democratic legislator then urged her constituents to “record” ICE agents carrying out their duties, claiming that doing so could “help protect someone from either being picked up off the street or unnecessarily and forcibly handled by ICE agents.”

In light of the current political climate, as well as the brazen acts carried out by various Democrats in opposition to the current administration’s illegal immigration crackdown, calls are mounting for Rep. Croke to be arrested, with political commentator Cassandra McDonald calling the actions of the lawmaker “reckless and malicious.”

While Attorney General Pam Bondi hasn’t specifically commented on the debacle and potential legal implications surrounding Rep. Croke’s campaign to dox federal agents, it’s possible that Rep. Croke’s actions via the contentious email at hand could be construed as a violation of 8 U.S.C. § 1324(1)(A)(iii) as well as 8 U.S. Code § 1324(1)(A)(v)(I) or 8 U.S. Code § 1324(1)(A)(v)(II).

Outside of potential violations of federal harboring aliens laws, the active obstruction/concealment incentives outlined in Rep. Croke’s mentioning of how doxxing ICE agents could “help protect someone from…being picked up off the street,” could also be construed as a possible violation of 18 U.S. Code § 4. Known legally as misprision of a felony, 18 U.S. Code § 4 makes failure to report a known felony a crime so long as the individual has direct knowledge and took active steps to conceal the information from authorities.

Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin has confirmed that Rep. Croke’s email stunt has been referred to the Justice Department for potential charges, but it remains unclear what legal avenues the Justice Department would pursue in the case.

Hope to see the Federal indictment soon!

I wouldn’t hold my breath. There’s always a lot of faux outrage, but as soon as the general public sees another squirrel, the case is forgotten about.

The DOJ should pursue all available charges. Then there should be jail time with the sentence pushed to the maximum.

“ICE is conducting their unlawful and undemocratic actions in the 12th House district, including the very block I reside on.” So, a state legislator is admitting to witnessing criminal acts where she lives and not just condoning it, but enabling it. I really like the "violation of 18 U.S. Code § 4." Known legally as misprision of a felony, 18 U.S. Code § 4 makes failure to report a known felony a crime so long as the individual has direct knowledge and took active steps to conceal the information from authorities.
